Away Days

A unique type of company away day, where staff can bond, problem solve and have fun while making a film or podcast.

What we offer

We offer companies team-building away days during which participants can make a film or podcast. We work with our client to build bespoke workshops, based on the needs of the organisation. Our away days can be anything from shooting and editing gory horror movies, to short documentary films about the local area, to radio documentaries about the company’s values.

We ensure that as well as providing basic skills in filmmaking and audio, our away days are an enjoyable and meaningful experience that give participants the opportunity to work, bond and problem solve together in a fun and creative way.

How it works

Film and audio making are a great way to build skills in teamwork. Participants will work in small groups to develop an idea. They will then each choose a role (camera, director, sound, producer) and work together to turn their idea into reality. Finally, the team will collaborate in the editing process, making key choices that will best shape their story.

These are unpressured days, where the focus is very much on fun, creativity and teamwork, and where process takes precedence over outcome.

Examples

Our away days are completely bespoke according to the client’s needs, however, one popular option is our ‘Videopia’ away days.

“If the Academy Awards got you itching to get in front of the camera and finally make it in the movies, then Videopia might well be the perfect first step on the road to Oscar glory.”
The Guardian

The brainchild of producer Harriet Knowles, Videopia is an interactive movie making studio that casts, shoots and screens tributes to Hollywood classics. The project produces bespoke filmmaking experiences for a variety of occasions and has toured festivals such as Glastonbury, Latitude, Reading, Bestival, End of the Road, and many more. Here’s what a typical Videopia away day entails:

1) Participants decide on a Hollywood film they want to recreate and divide themselves up into roles.

2) Using a script and a vast array of costumes and props they act out key scenes from the film, performing roles both in front of and behind the camera.

3) Our masterful inhouse editor then whips the scenes up into a truncated version of the Hollywood classic, and it is screened back to participants on a big screen at the end of the day.
