Whalebone Workshops is the sister company of Whalebone Films. We are a team of award-winning filmmakers and radio producers who have spent our careers telling stories from around the world. We established Whalebone Workshops in order to share with others the film and audio making-skills that we have honed over many years.

Who are we?

Why Workshops?

At Whalebone Films we have been making films, radio and podcasts for outlets such as the BBC, Channel 4, Al Jazeera, the Guardian and many others for over a decade, and our work has played at festivals around the world, winning awards and going viral. We also make films for charities, NGOs and companies, and it is this work for the third sector that led us to conceive Whalebone Workshops.

Skills training

Having the ability to make films in-house and can result in a more sustainable and authentic output. That's where we can help upskill your staff in filmmaking, photography or podcasting. Read more about our skills training.

Educational workshops

Secondly, we have seen the therapeutic benefit and the sense of fun and empowerment that film and audio-making workshops can bring to a wide range of people. We have run these types of educational sessions on an ad hoc basis throughout our careers, but wanted to make it more central to our work, and so our educational workshops were born. Away days

Finally, as filmmakers we have also spent our careers working in various teams with the collective goal of making a film and we have seen firsthand the bonding, the problem solving, the joy and sometimes the silliness that is inherent in the process. It struck us that filmmaking away days were the perfect way to bond and strengthen a team, no matter their profession, and regardless of whether they have ever used a camera before.
